Class of 2025 REACH Scholars Named

In a special ceremony and reception hosted at The University of North Georgia on Tuesday, December 1st, Lumpkin County Schools named our newest cohort of REACH scholars.

The Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen (REACH) Program, launched as a pilot program during the 2011-2012 Academic Year, is a need-based youth development and scholarship program with specific financial, academic, and behavior eligibility requirements. The purpose of the REACH Program is to increase academic persistence and achievement of Georgia’s middle and high school students and to increase college access and success. Private and public donations fund the scholarships.  Upon successful completion of the program, REACH Scholars graduate from high school with a guaranteed $10,000 scholarship to continue their education at a university, college or technical college.

In their first public appearance since the COVID pandemic started last March, former Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal joined us for this special recognition as the keynote speaker.

Congratulations to this newest cohort of Scholars!  We are proud of you, Hailey Wehunt, Alyssa Allison, and Leah Eversole, and we look forward to following you through high school and beyond as you continue your education!

Special thanks to Kerri Whitmire, Director of Student Services for Lumpkin County Schools, for her coordination of this program and today's ceremony and reception.
