This month’s Partner in Education is Sheriff Stacy Jarrard and the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Our Partner in Education program here in Lumpkin County welcomes the involvement of all of our stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, parents, and community).  A partnership is a mutually agreed upon arrangement where both the school and the business, individual or organization is intended to benefit our schools, our students, our faculty, staff and families.

Sheriff Jarrard was chosen for this month’s recognition in part due to his commitment to our SRO program in Lumpkin County Schools.  Unlike some law enforcement agencies across our state, Sheriff Jarrard has made a commitment to fund a significant portion of the costs incurred for our SROs. This provides a tremendous benefit for our school system and helps to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Furthermore, Sheriff Jarrard and our SROs do an amazing job building relationships with our students and adding to their quality of education.

Our School Resource Officers are: Nick Parrish at Long Branch, Melvin Murphy at Lumpkin Elementary, Jamie Grulla at Blackburn, Jacob Wise at Lumpkin County Middle School, and George Albert at Lumpkin County High School.

Additionally, Sheriff Jarrard is a figure in all of our schools whether as a guest speaker in classrooms, teaching a lesson for the DARE program, bringing Santa to visit our students, or working with administration to offer assemblies on the dangers of drugs, vaping, and the like to our middle and high school student body. In addition, when Superintendent Brown is making the important decision on whether to delay or cancel school, Sheriff Jarrard is available to offer guidance and advice on road conditions in and around the county.

Thank you, Sheriff Jarrard, for your dedication to the Lumpkin County School District.  We appreciate your partnership, and we look forward to working with you for many years to come.
