Providing Meals During School Closings

We know that an important service provided by our schools each day is providing meals for students. This need continues when school is not in session.

We are fortunate for the LC School Nutrition Department to have partners including Lumpkin County Family Connection, Community Helping Place, Head Start, and Dahlonega Country Day Academy to identify families in need and to help coordinate efforts today as we prepare for next week.

Today, system employees teamed to collect all perishable food items at our schools and transport them to our Student Outreach Center at LCMS. Food boxes this week will now include milk, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and yogurt which would have otherwise perished during our closure.

Thank you to our Chief Operations Officer Greg Trammell, Chief Financial Officer Shannon Christian, Technology Director Sean Mullins, Technology Coordinator Phil Heaton, Technology Specialist Jamie Moss, Technology Specialist Patrick Jones, Maintenance Foreman Stacy Barrett, and Superintendent Dr. Rob Brown for loading up and delivering the items.

Thanks also to School Nutrition Director Julie Knight-Brown, Social Worker Joni McElwaney, Parent Involvement Specialist Sabine Brashier, and the incredible support team from Family Connection who work collaboratively to serve this community!

If you know of anyone needing assistance, please have them complete this attached form and either email it to brigette.barker@lumpkinschools.com or bring it to LCMS on Monday, March 16, 2020 between 8:00-4:00.

If emergency food needs arise after next week, please contact Brigette Barker and leave a voicemail or email to receive assistance.
