Dahlonega, Georgia – April 13, 2026 –Lumpkin County High School is proud to announce the addition of two outstanding coaches to its athletic program with the hiring of Brent Howell as the new Girls Flag Football Coach and Eric Carrion as the new Boys Soccer Coach.
Coach Brent Howell brings a wealth of experience in both education and athletics to his new role. Currently serving as a science teacher at Lumpkin County High School, Howell has been an integral part of the school community and has demonstrated strong leadership both in the classroom and on the field. He previously served as Head Soccer Coach at Lumpkin County, where he rebuilt the program, reestablished a junior varsity team, and led the program to back-to-back state playoff appearances for the first time in over 20 years.
In addition to his soccer success, Howell has extensive coaching experience across multiple sports, including football, fastpitch softball, and baseball. His diverse background and commitment to student-athlete development make him uniquely positioned to lead the launch and growth of the Girls Flag Football program. Howell is known for his strong leadership, communication skills, and dedication to building competitive, character-driven teams.
Joining him is Coach Eric Carrion, who will take over the Boys Soccer program. Carrion comes to Lumpkin County with a strong background in both coaching and education. He currently serves as a Specialized Instruction Teacher at Denmark High School and holds a US Soccer C License, reflecting his advanced knowledge of the game.
Carrion has been the Head Men’s Varsity Soccer Coach at Denmark High School since 2022, where he has led all aspects of the program, including training, strategy, player development, and academic accountability. His experience also includes time as an assistant coach at the collegiate level with Life University, where he contributed to recruiting, match analysis, and athlete development.
Known for fostering a disciplined and supportive team culture, Carrion emphasizes both athletic excellence and personal growth. His passion for developing student-athletes and building strong programs aligns well with Lumpkin County High School’s commitment to excellence.
