Private schools and parents will also be provided information on the IDEA Proportionate Share of Federal Funds.

The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) requires that the school system provide information to private school administrators regarding the provision of equitable special education services to parentally-placed private school students with disabilities. Home-schooled children with disabilities are considered in the same category and are also eligible for services under this provision. Parentally-placed students with disabilities in private schools or home-schooled students are not entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE), but the district will provide services based on a proportionate share of federal funds.

To plan accordingly for the 2021-2022 school year, Lumpkin County Schools would like to meet with representatives of private schools or home schools located in Lumpkin County on June 23, 2021 at 8:00 AM and at 4:30 PM at the Lumpkin County Board of Education located at 56 Indian Drive, Dahlonega, GA 30533

The following topics will be discussed at the meeting:

●      Child Find Process

●      The determination of proportionate share of Federal Funds available to serve parentally placed private school children with disabilities.

●      How the consultation process among the LEA and parentally placed private school children will take place.

●      How, where, and by whom special education and related services will be provided.

If you are unable to attend, you may call the LCSS Special Education Office at 706-864-3611 and we will be happy to discuss the process with you and answer your questions.
