Each year, the National FFA Organization honors FFA members who show the utmost dedication to the organization through their desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
The American FFA Degree is bestowed upon a select group of students in recognition of their years of academic and professional excellence. This year over 5,800 American Degrees were awarded. Ellie Young, a member of the Lumpkin County FFA chapter in Dahlonega, GA, was awarded the American FFA Degree at the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo on October 24, 2026 in Indianapolis, IN.
Sponsored by Bayer, Cargill, Case IH, John Deere, Rabobank, and Syngenta, the award recognizes demonstrated ability and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing, or service programs.
To be eligible, FFA members must have earned at least $10,000 or earned at least $2,000 and worked at least 2,250 hrs. outside of class time through a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program in which they own their own business, hold a professional position as an employee, or conduct research. Recipients must also complete 50 hours of community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement through the completion of a long list of FFA and community activities. Less than one percent of FFA members achieve the American FFA Degree.
After being recognized at the national convention, each recipient of the American FFA Degree receives a gold American FFA Degree key and certificate. The National FFA Organization is a school-based national youth leadership development organization of more than 1,053,847 student members as part of 9,591 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Ellie is the daughter of Marty and Misty Young. She is a LCHS graduate from the Class of 2023. She is enrolled at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA majoring in Agricultural Education.

Last week, LCHS hosted the Probe College Fair Tour. Students got to explore and speak with admissions representatives about future options from over 40 colleges.

Parents and families of Juniors: counselors will begin meeting with juniors for individual academic conferences starting October 16-November 13. Conferences have been scheduled during one of your student's non-academic classes. Students will receive their appointment slip through one of their elective teachers within the next few days. Check with your student for their appointment date and time (parents can also email their student's counselor for a copy of the appointment date/time), parents are welcome to attend/conference call into the scheduled conference.
Save the Date! LCHS will host a FAFSA help night for seniors/families on Thurs. November 5 @ 5:30-7:00 pm in the LCHS Media Center. This will help seniors and family complete the FAFSA if help is needed or if you have questions about college financial aid. The FAFSA is the gateway to receiving financial aid to cover costs at a 4-year college or technical college program.

LCHS DECA attended UNG for the CTSO Summit
LUMPKIN COUNTY BRAVES THE MONSOON AT HOME! 🌧️🏆
Talk about defending our turf! This past weekend, the Lumpkin County Army Raiders Team braved an absolute monsoon right here at home in the Lumpkin County Stadium. Hosting the State Qualifier, our Raiders turned a muddy mess into a massive victory, competing in a stacked field of over 20 schools and 40 teams!
When the skies opened up over the stadium, the course became tough, slick, and incredibly muddy. But that’s exactly where our Raiders thrive! Embracing the grueling conditions on their home field, our squads dug deep and pushed through the sludge!
Thanks to an incredible team effort, the Raiders secured an outstanding 4th place overall in their division! Faced with elite competition and brutal elements, these athletes showed the true meaning of grit, teamwork, and Lumpkin Pride. It was difficult, it was messy, and it was an absolute blast.
Congratulations to all of our Raiders on an unforgettable performance on our home turf!
